Perhaps you've dreamed of escaping the stress of your everyday routine by taking a year off to explore the world with your loved ones. Maybe you've thought about changing your life - getting out of the rat race - but dismissed it as impossible. Well it's not. The Dailey family did it. Now your family can also. When Adam Dailey put his professional life on hold and took a twelve month "family sabbatical," the future of his business was uncertain. But instead of waiting for a "right time" that would never come, Adam, his wife, and their four children set off on an epic trek across Latin America, Australia, Asia, and Europe that brought the family closer together than ever before. At once a fascinating memoir of a life-altering adventure and an essential how-to guide, this volume supplies all the information you'll need for your own successful family sabbatical--from how to plan and finance it to schooling on the road to dealing with the unexpected and managing obligations back home. There are risks, but the rewards are enormous. All it takes is spontaneity, flexibility, and the courage to take the leap!

Before there was Lois Lowry’s The Giver or M. T. Anderson’s Feed, there was Robert Cormier’s I Am the Cheese, a subversive classic that broke new ground for YA literature. A boy’s search for his father becomes a desperate journey to unlock a secret past. But the past must not be remembered if the boy is to survive. As he searches for the truth that hovers at the edge of his mind, the boy—and readers—arrive at a shattering conclusion. “An absorbing, even brilliant job. The book is assembled in mosaic fashion: a tiny chip here, a chip there. . . . Everything is related to something else; everything builds and builds to a fearsome climax. . . . [Cormier] has the knack of making horror out of the ordinary, as the masters of suspense know how to do.”—The New York Times Book Review “A horrifying tale of government corruption, espionage, and counter espionage told by an innocent young victim. . . . The buildup of suspense is terrific.”—School Library Journal, starred review An ALA Notable Children’s Book A School Library Journal Best Book of the Year A Horn Book Fanfare A Library of Congress Children’s Book of the Year A Colorado Blue Spruce Young Adult Book Award Nominee From the Trade Paperback edition.

In the music world, no matter what style of music you play, the same principles apply. A whole note is a whole note, whether you play country or jazz. I have found when it comes to finances, whether you are a Christian or not, the scriptures pertaining to finances will work for your home. I have written concerning the home's finances from a biblical viewpoint. From this perspective, you will get a different outlook on everything in life. The old saying, "you can't see the forest for the trees" is true. We need to rise above life's situations and get a Birdseye (heavenly) view. Not only do I lay out practical ways of handling household finances, but I also get to the heart of the matter. If nothing changes in your heart, then nothing changes. Whether it is our house, state, or our country, we need an attitude adjustment on how we deal with money. I encourage you to set aside any bias if you are not a Christian. Ask yourself if the way you handle your finances is working. If you are not one hundred percent satisfied with your results, this book will prove valuable for you. About the Author In 1982 Elaine and I were married and rented our first house. It was 720 square feet with 7 foot ceilings. We began our journey together, setting it in our hearts to become producers, not consumers. As a minister, at Mt. Zion in Clarkston Michigan since 1986, I began teaching people the same principles we discovered. These principles took us from renting the house to buying it and turning it into a 2200 square foot home with cathedral ceilings. We have never experienced a financial burden upon our lives. My thought is; if I can do this, anyone can. In 2011, after 29 years of marriage, we still live a financially stress free life.

In this poignant, evocative novel, bestselling author Holly Chamberlin sweeps you into the picturesque town of Ogunquit, Maine, where a family in flux explores their ties to a beautiful beach house, and to each other. Some houses have a personality of their own. Larchmere is that kind of place--a splendid, sprawling home with breathtaking views that open to briny Atlantic air and seabirds' calls. It's the place where Tilda McQueen O'Connell grew up and now vacations each year, and where she and her three siblings--Adam, Hannah, and Craig--have gathered to commemorate the tenth anniversary of their mother's passing. But instead of the bittersweet but relaxing reunion Tilda expected, she finds chaos. Her father's plan to marry a younger woman has thrown the fate of the beach house into uncertainty. For Tilda, the stakes seem the highest. Alone and vulnerable two years after her husband's death, she sees Larchmere as not just a cherished part of her history, but her eventual refuge from the world. Faced with losing that legacy, Tilda must embrace an unknown future. And all the McQueens must reconcile their shared, sometimes painful past--and learn how to love one another even when it means forging a life apart. . .

Never before have we cared so much about food. It preoccupies our popular culture, our fantasies, and even our moralizing—“You still eat meat?” With our top chefs as deities and finest restaurants as places of pilgrimage, we have made food the stuff of secular seeking and transcendence, finding heaven in a mouthful. But have we come any closer to discovering the true meaning of food in our lives? With inimitable charm and learning, Adam Gopnik takes us on a beguiling journey in search of that meaning as he charts America’s recent and rapid evolution from commendably aware eaters to manic, compulsive gastronomes. It is a journey that begins in eighteenth-century France—the birthplace of our modern tastes (and, by no coincidence, of the restaurant)—and carries us to the kitchens of the White House, the molecular meccas of Barcelona, and beyond. To understand why so many of us apparently live to eat, Gopnik delves into the most burning questions of our time, including: Should a Manhattanite bother to find chicken killed in the Bronx? Is a great vintage really any better than a good bottle of wine? And: Why does dessert matter so much? Throughout, he reminds us of a time-honored truth often lost amid our newfound gastronomic pieties and certitudes: What goes on the table has never mattered as much to our lives as what goes on around the table—the scene of families, friends, lovers coming together, or breaking apart; conversation across the simplest or grandest board. This, ultimately, is who we are. Following in the footsteps of Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, Adam Gopnik gently satirizes the entire human comedy of the comestible as he surveys the wide world of taste that we have lately made our home. The Table Comes First is the delightful beginning of a new conversation about the way we eat now. From the Hardcover edition.

Marriage was created and designed by the Creator. God, not man, made marriage. God designed marriage between one man and one woman, uniting them in holy matrimony. The two are to come togethe-r as one flesh in a joyous and fulfilling relationship. Marriage is covenant, commitment, and companionship meant for a lifetime. Gloria Ward's insightful sequel to "Eve, Get In Your Place," is a call for Christian husbands to take their rightful leadership positions in the home. It provides biblical principles on the husband's role and responsibility in the marriage. Just as God made marriage, He also established a divine order for the home. God commands that husbands love their wives as Jesus loved the church and gave Himself for it. Wives are to submit unto their husbands as unto the Lord. It is not about the husband being superior. Rather, a husband's authority lies in being an obedient, responsible leader/servant to his family. Submission does not mean that a wife is slave to her husband. Rather, she is submitting to her Lord and obeying His direction for her home. The Bible, the inspired Word of God, gives instructions on how the husband and wife are to treat each other. Since God is the designer, why not try marriage His way before heading to divorce court? God hates divorce. Dr. Ward will help you discover what God has said on the subject of marriage. Knowing God's perspective will help both husband and wife to properly function in what will be a blissful union.
