This series is specifically tailored to provide the information necessary to prepare an applicant for FAA mechanic certification with airframe and/or powerplant (A&P) ratings. These textbooks are designed for use by instructors and applicants preparing for the FAA Airframe Knowledge and Practical Exams, but also serve as an invaluable reference guide for certificated technicians who wish to improve their knowledge and practice. Chapter structure has been designed to ensure consistent and efficient internalization of the material presented. Photographs and detailed drawings illustrate concepts, improve understanding, and increase retention. This volume of the series emphasizes theory and methods of practical application within the overall topic of the airframe of an aircraft: how it is built, maintained, and repaired. It covers subjects such as airframe construction features, assembly and rigging, fabric covering, structural repairs, and aircraft welding. The specific topics addressed include Aircraft Structures, Aerodynamics, Aircraft Assembly and Rigging, Aircraft Fabric Covering, Aircraft Metal Structural Repair, Aircraft Welding, Aircraft Wood and Structural Repair, Advanced Composite Materials, Aircraft Painting and Finishing, and Aircraft Electrical Systems.

The Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbook-Airframe (FAA-H-8083-31) is one of a series of three handbooks for persons preparing for certification as an airframe or powerplant mechanic. It is intended that this handbook provide the basic information on principles, fundamentals, and technical procedures in the subject matter areas relating to the airframe rating. It is designed to aid students enrolled in a formal course of instruction, as well as the individual who is studying on his or her own. Since the knowledge requirements for the airframe and powerplant ratings closely parallel each other in some subject areas, the chapters which discuss fire protection systems and electrical systems contain some material which is also duplicated in the Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbook-Powerplant (FAA-H-8083-32).This volume contains information on airframe construction features, assembly and rigging, fabric covering, structural repairs, and aircraft welding. The handbook also contains an explanation of the units that make up the various airframe systems. Because there are so many different types of aircraft in use today, it is reasonable to expect that differences exist in airframe components and systems. To avoid undue repetition, the practice of using representative systems and units is carried out throughout the handbook. Subject matter treatment is from a generalized point of view and should be supplemented by reference to manufacturer's manuals or other textbooks if more detail is desired. This handbook is not intended to replace, substitute for, or supersede official regulations or the manufacturer's instructions.

Morphing Wings Technologies: Large Commercial Aircraft and Civil Helicopters offers a fresh look at current research on morphing aircraft, including industry design, real manufactured prototypes and certification. This is an invaluable reference for students in the aeronautics and aerospace fields who need an introduction to the morphing discipline, as well as senior professionals seeking exposure to morphing potentialities. Practical applications of morphing devices are presented—from the challenge of conceptual design incorporating both structural and aerodynamic studies, to the most promising and potentially flyable solutions aimed at improving the performance of commercial aircraft and UAVs. Morphing aircraft are multi-role aircraft that change their external shape substantially to adapt to a changing mission environment during flight. The book consists of eight sections as well as an appendix which contains both updates on main systems evolution (skin, structure, actuator, sensor, and control systems) and a survey on the most significant achievements of integrated systems for large commercial aircraft. Provides current worldwide status of morphing technologies, the industrial development expectations, and what is already available in terms of flying systems Offers new perspectives on wing structure design and a new approach to general structural design Discusses hot topics such as multifunctional materials and auxetic materials Presents practical applications of morphing devices

This edited volume applies the excellent work done in Crew Resource Management (CRM) in the aviation industry to training teams in other organizations. CRM is not only a design for training, but it also has been evaluated over time and shown great success. This lesson should be transferred to other nonaviation settings, and this book was written with that goal in mind. This book has two purposes. First, it provides those interested in designing and delivering resource management training with useful and practical information containing the latest thinking and guidance available. Second, it launches CRM training as a viable intervention that can be used to enhance teamwork and organizational effectiveness, as well as minimize human error in a wide variety of industries and organizations. Written from experts in the field of training, this volume is organized into four sections that: *address the foundation of resource management training; *focus on the tools needed for design and delivery of resource management training; *apply resource management training to several industries and domains (i.e., medical, naval, airlines); and *look at the global issues, such as culture of organizations, national issues, and error in training.
