Two worlds are intertwined in this hauntingly beautiful story as it moves from Toronto to the English moors and to Venice, Italy. The time frame shifts between present and past, linking the lives of a young Brontë scholar (a woman in the throes of a troubled love affair), a turn-of-the-century female balloonist, and an elusive explorer with the ghost – or the memory – of Emily Brontë. Urquhart reveals something about the act of artistic creation, the ways in which stories enter our lives, and about the cyclical nature of love throughout time. This is a novel of darkness and light, of intense weather and inner calm. From the Hardcover edition.

Winner of the Nebula Award, the Hugo Award, the Locus Award, and one of the most acclaimed writers in science fiction, Ursula Le Guin’s classic novel The Lathe of Heaven imagines a world in which one man’s dreams can change all of our realities. In a world beset by climate instability and overpopulation, George Orr discovers that his dreams have the power to alter reality. Upon waking, the world he knew has become a strange, barely recognizable place, where only George has the clear memory of how it was before. He seeks counseling from Dr. William Haber, a psychiatrist who immediately understands how powerful a weapon George wields. Soon, George is a pawn in Haber’s dangerous game, where the fate of humanity grows more imperiled with every waking hour. As relevant to our current world as it was when it won the Locus Award, Ursula Le Guin’s novel is a true classic, at once eerie and prescient, wildly entertaining and ferociously intelligent.

Whether we're talking about eternal Heaven and Hell in Western religions or Reincarnation and Karma in religions of the East, Sue Wilson shares overwhelming evidence that what most religions teach about what happens when we die is totally wrong and fosters irrational fear and extreme codependency. She asserts that contrary to these unsubstantiated teachings, death is a positive experience for everyone! Wilson is not an outsider looking in on this subject. She's a former minister's wife and missionary to Africa, a world traveler, and a retired world history and geography teacher. In To Heaven Through Hell, she shares an incredible journey into the invisible realm beyond the physical world through a number of spontaneous paranormal or sixth sense experiences, along with her extensive research from theologians, psychologists, psychiatrists, doctors, scientists and a host of others in the helping professions... all of which refute religion's erroneous teachings concerning life after death. Among her many sixth sense experiences are a powerful near-death experience in which she cries out to the God she has learned to fear in fundamental Christianity and is assured that God's love is unconditional not only for herself, but for all of us; the appearance of her father's ghost who tells her that when he died he went to God immediately and was fully immersed in love and understanding as we'll all be when we die; and an amazing regression experience which helps her understand that the purpose of reincarnation is opportunity, not karma. Wilson encourages readers to formulate healthy beliefs about God and the universe. She shows how embracing positive beliefs about life after death, especially, removes the fear of dying and enables us to get on with the wonderful business of living. She helps readers tap their own sixth sense and gives a problem-solving model that incorporates all the senses...the five traditional ones, the controversial sixth, and a seventh sense we often overlook in our desperate search for answers...common sense! And though she acknowledges that religious institutions have done much good in the world, she challenges them to admit to the damage they have also done with destructive teachings about life and death, and to replace them with better ones. To acknowledge that all religions are resources, not roadmaps, including their own. And to turn their buildings into lively classrooms where their members can find solutions to the real problems they face as human beings, using good ideas from all disciplines in society and rejecting the rest.

What is the church’s mission in the 21st century? Malaysian apostle and missiologist Dexter Low says “nation transformation” must become our new agenda for fulfilling the Great Commission in our time. The current model, which calls for uniting the church’s leaders worldwide to win 1 billion souls and plant 5 million churches by 2021, isn’t working. Ultimately it cannot because its emphasis on church planting and evangelism excludes social transformation. But when the key pillars of social influence are also realigned according to kingdom principles, then your nation, any nation, will be transformed. God’s Mandate for Transforming Your Nation provides practical instructions on advancing God’s kingdom globally. True examples of ways that lead to measurable results are included. Low will both challenge and inspire you as a Christian leader to take a significant step forward in fulfilling the church’s mission in the 21st century.

In China, the world’s next superpower, life is comfortable for the fortunate few. For others, it’s a hand-to-mouth struggle for a full stomach, a place to live, wages for work done, and freedom to speak openly. In a place where few things are more important than food, “Have you eaten yet?” is another way of saying hello. After traversing the country and meeting its people, Ang shares her delicious experiences with us. She tells of a clandestine cup of salty yak butter tea with a Tibetan monk during a military crackdown and explains how a fluffy spring onion omelet encapsulates China’s drive for rural development. You’ll have lunch with some of the country's most enduring activists, savor meals with earthquake survivors, and get to know a house cleaner who makes the best fried chicken in all of Beijing. Ang bites into the gaping divide between rich and poor, urban and rural reform, intolerance for dissent, and the growing dissatisfaction with those in power. By serving these topics to us one at a time, To the People, Food Is Heaven provides a fresh perspective beyond the country’s anonymous identity as an economic powerhouse. Ang plates a terrific, wide-ranging feast that is the new China. Have you eaten yet?

In The Heavens Are Changing Susan Neylan offers a fresh perspective on Aboriginal encounters with Protestant missions, exploring how the Tsimshian in nineteenth-century British Columbia took an active and important role in shaping forms of Christianity and, in turn, were shaped by them. She examines the nature of Protestant missions in their first generation on the north coast of British Columbia (1857-1901), focusing on the Aboriginal roles in Christianization. She pays special attention to the Euro-Canadian missionary perspective, the viewpoints of First Nations themselves, and particular events that illuminate the negotiation of Christian identities, such as forms of worship, naming practices, and mission housing. While the Euro-Canadian record dominates historical missionary sources, Aboriginal writings illustrate both a genuine evangelicalism and an indigenized Christianity. Christian meanings were constantly challenged from both within and without the mission context through revivalism and group evangelism. Neylan interprets the relationship forged between the Tsimshian and Euro-Canadian missionaries as a dialogue, although not necessarily a mutually beneficial one. The process by which power was unequally distributed through missionization exposes the extent to which the social and cultural meanings of Tsimshian daily life were contested and negotiated in encounters with Christianity.

Annabel Beam spent most of her childhood in and out of hospitals with a rare and incurable digestive disorder that prevented her from ever living a normal, healthy life. One sunny day when she was able to go outside and play with her sisters, she fell three stories headfirst inside an old, hollowed-out tree, a fall that may well have caused death or paralysis. Implausibly, she survived without a scratch. While unconscious inside the tree, with rescue workers struggling to get to her, she visited heaven. Miracles from Heaven will change how we look at the world around us and reinforce our belief in God and the afterlife.
