As with previous years, 2015 was one in which Mercedes-Benz dominated both the drivers' and constructors- championships. The German manufacturer confirmed the technical advantage it had derived from the introduction of the revolutionary power unit, which first appeared in 2014. In place of Red Bull, which fell into disgrace after a media conflict with engine supplier Renault, it was Ferrari that attempted to stand up to the Silver Arrows. Side issues were the stories of a Williams wanting to come back and battle for the title; McLaren with a new but not very effective Honda engine, which touched the lowest point in the Japanese manufacturer's long history in F1; and the other leading teams of a season that ended with the official announcement of Renault's return, having acquired Lotus. Offering a precise analysis of this latest F1 championship, especially from the technical point of view, there is once again Giorgio Piola. A hundred or so all-colour illustrations document the development of the various cars throughout the Formula 1 World Championship, and offer - as always - a wealth of information anticipating the 2016 season.

Giorgio Piola once again fathoms the 2016 season, his illustrations showing the reader all the secrets and technical aspects of the 11 teams’ battling cars in this world championship won by Nico Rosberg, who carried on the family tradition begun by his father Keke, the 1982 world title winner. Mercedes-Benz also dominated the 2016 F1 season and it did so in an even more superior manner than in the past, a sign of the team’s outstanding technical and organizational ability, the like of which has seldom been seen in the sport’s long history. Right behind the German cars came Red Bull, which took second place in the championship--a position it held in 2014--overtaking a disappointing Ferrari, which had a difficult season. But 2016 was also McLaren’s season, although the team did not quite return to the forefront, even though it made substantial progress; the year also marked the return of an American team in Haas. This edition of the book is also complete with an extensive study of the 2017 F1 World Championship, which will bring major new aerodynamic and tyre developments and a brusque performance flare-up.

For the fourth consecutive year, Sebastian Vettel has won the Formula 1 World Championship for drivers. He did so with 13 victories out of the season's 19 races, from the Grand Prix of Belgium to the Brazilian GP. Only Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were able to get the better of the great German champion with their sporadic wins. And Vettel's string of successes also enabled Red Bull to confirm once again it is still the top constructor. On the technical front, the 2013 world championship acquired a certain stability, even if there was no lack of new elements, like the abolition of the cars' nose step, the elimination of the double DRS and Ferrari's adoption of faired half-axels by. All aspects carefully explained by Giorgio Piola in his latest book in the "Technical Analysis" series, which is now a must-have for all enthusiasts. This edition also includes over 300 color illustrations, which unveil all the secrets of the cars that battled for the 2013 world title; and then there is an early look ahead to the principal changes of 2014, when the cars go back to being powered by a turbocharged engines of 6-cylinders and 1600 cc. instead of the classic normally aspirated V8.

Radical changes in terms of technology and regulations marked the 2014 season, with the cars being equipped with 1600 cc, six-cylinder turbocharged engines with dual internal combustion and electrical power delivery (the so-called Power Unit) in place of the classic naturally aspirated V8s. Electronically controlled rear braking and a series of aerodynamic restrictions were also introduced, the latter having a major influence on the external appearance of the cars which were very different to their predecessors. These changes and innovations also had significant sporting repercussions with the Mercedes of Rosberg and Hamilton undisputed protagonists of the World Championship, the surprising Daniel Ricciardo doing better than his teammate Vettel and the Maranello team featuring in another grey season with Fernando Alonso already heading towards McLaren. Revealing the technical secrets of the 2014 cars and providing a broad preview of the season to come is as ever Giorgio Piola who, drawing by drawing, illustrates and describes in the most minute detail the entire World Championship field.

On the technical front, the 2012 world championship will be remembered for the large air intakes in the noses of many of the cars, their purpose to recover aerodynamic load; then there were the sophisticated F-Ducts created by Mercedes-Benz and the pull rod front suspension layout designed by Ferrari. In this well-established publication, author, designer and television commentator Giorgio Piola analyses the various development phases of the different teams during the world championship. Brief but exhaustive texts illustrated with hundreds of technical designes in full colour are the main elements of this book, which concludes with a section on the cars that will be the protagonists of the 2013 season.

From his early career in IndyCar racing and on to his unparalleled success in Formula One, we learn in comprehensive, engaging and highly entertaining detail how a car actually works. Adrian has designed for the likes of Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill, David Coulthard, Mika Hakkinen, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, always with a shark-like purity of purpose: to make the car go faster. And while his career has been marked by unbelievable triumphs, there have also been deep tragedies; most notably Ayrton Senna's death during his time at Williams in 1994. Beautifully illustrated with never-before-seen drawings, How to Build a Car encapsulates, through Adrian's remarkable life story, precisely what makes Formula One so thrilling - its potential for the total synchronicity of man and machine, the perfect combination of style, efficiency and speed.

Whilst rivals come and go, The World's Leading Grand Prix Annual reaches its 63rd year of publication as the indisputable leader in its field. The 19-race Formula 1 World championship season is covered with its usual meticulous attention to detail. This year, the much-respected Tony Dodgins takes over the editor's role, supported by the award-winning author Maurice Hamilton. The vastly experienced pair, both long-time paddock insiders, bring you all the drama and intrigue that is Formula 1 in their reportage. Supporting their exhaustive race reports are the traditionally detailed result spreads that include specially prepared and easy to follow lap charts. Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel's charge towards a fourth consecutive title against his perennial challenger Fernando Alonso, has been enlivened by the arrival of Mercedes-Benz as title contenders with the newly-arrived Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg both claiming race victories during the 2013 season. Adding Ferrari-bound Kimi Räikkönen to this heady mix merely spices up an already fascinating championship year that ebbed and flowed across a punishing 9-month race calendar.Mark Hughes once more analyses the successes, frustrations and failures of each of the eleven teams in his Team-By-Team review, which includes team personnel and technical specifications of the F1 cars showcased in the beautiful illustrations by Adrian Dean. Special features for the 2013 edition include the marking of two special milestones, as Williams reached 600 race starts, and McLaren celebrated their 50th Anniversary as a racing team from their humble beginnings back in 1963. The sport's other leading categories are also given lavish coverage in this comprehensive review. The single-seat ladder from Formula 3 up to GP2 showcases the rising talent pool, all aiming to make their way into Formula 1. Meanwhile Audi continued their domination of Le Mans in Sports Car Racing, whilst Touring Cars, in all their respective categories, continued to provide door-to door banging combat. Veteran scribe Gordon Kirby continues to give his no-holds barred assessment of the racing year in the United States, as NASCAR continues to dominate, despite welcome signs of a revival of Indy Car racing, highlighted by an emotional victory in the Indianapolis 500 by the enormously popular Brazilian veteran Tony Kanaan.
