Ziel der vorliegenden Studie ist es, die Entwicklung physikbezogener Interessen und selbstbezogener Kognitionen von Schülerinnen und Schülern im Übergang von der Primar- zur Sekundarstufe zu untersuchen. Darüber hinaus beschäftigt sich die Arbeit mit der Frage, inwiefern die Gestaltung des physikbezogenen Unterrichts in den beiden Schulstufen Einfluss auf diese Entwicklung nimmt. In der Studie wurden quantitative und qualitative Forschungsmethoden miteinander verzahnt. So wurden 348 Schülerinnen und Schüler im Rahmen einer längsschnittlichen Fragebogenstudie vom vierten bis zum siebten Schuljahr zu den benannten Zielvariablen befragt. Darüber hinaus wurden ergänzende Interviews mit 18 Schülerinnen und Schülern aus der Längsschnittstichprobe geführt. Es zeigte sich, dass die physikbezogenen Interessen und selbstbezogenen Kognitionen der Schülerinnen und Schüler über die Zeit hinweg signifikant abnehmen. Dabei war der Rückgang des situationalen Interesses am physikbezogenen Unterricht, insbesondere in der Gruppe der Gymnasiasten, besonders stark ausgeprägt. Veränderungen in der Unterrichtsgestaltung, die oftmals mit dem Wechsel von der Primar- in die Sekundarstufe einhergehen, scheinen den Rückgang des unterrichtsbezogenen Interesses nach dem Schulstufenübergang zu beeinflussen.
