The Encyclopedia covers the genre from 1920 to 1994. The genre, however, can be very confusing: films often have several titles, and many of the stars have more than one pseudonym. In an effort to clarify some of the confusion, the authors have included all the information available to them on almost 3,300 films. Each entry includes a listing of the production company, the cast and crew, distributors, running times, reviews with star ratings whenever possible, and alternate film titles. A list of film series and one of the stars' pseudonyms, in addition to a 7,900 name index, are also included. Illustrated.

The Unauthorized Jackie Chan Encyclopedia offers readers and fans a comprehensive A-to-Z look at everything related to Jackie Chan and his unparalleled popularity and success. Regularly referred to as the world's biggest superstar, Jackie Chan has enjoyed more then three full decades of celebrity, and was only the second (after Bruce Lee) Asian star to gain full acceptance by - even domination of - the American pop film genre. The book's A-to-Z format is another huge hook here - besides Chan's perennial popularity. (And, since Chan produces at least one major US movie each year, his continued popularity and presence is virtually guaranteed.) This encyclopedic approach has been used successfully for other genre books, such as Encyclopedia Madonnica (not ours), but it has never been done for Jackie Chan. Acclaimed author John Corcoran (The Ultimate Martial Arts Q & A Book, Summer 2001), has spent his entire professional life in the martial arts and martial arts journalism. He is well connected and well positioned to support the book as needed. This is a very strong, timely addition to our martial arts list (This book is not authorized by Jackie Chan or his companies or representat

The Secrets of Chinese Karate was written in the early 60's by Senior Grandmaster Ed Parker Sr. Mr. Parker reveals the amazing techniques of Karate as developed and practiced by the Chinese - the true pioneers of the martial art of self-defense. Mr. Parker elaborated on the theories of various styles that occurred prior to the time of Shao-lin and how they were based on imitating the movements of animals such as, the deer, tiger, bear, monkey and bird. It was surmised that the various animals chosen, depicted different characteristics. For instance, the leopard's movements were used to develop speed as well as strength. Tiger movements were formed to develop the bones, dragon movements to develop alertness and snake movements to develop temperament and endurance. Through the years of experimentation, the Chinese discovered two types of strength-inner and outer strength. Inner strength-denoting hidden power. One such form of inner power was Dim Mak, the study and art of " Touching nerve points" which involved a detailed analysis of nerve points as well as developing the skills of the herbalist-a form that was only taught to the most patient peaceful exponents. Natural weapons used anciently by the Chinese were listed in charts and highlighted in terms of possible historical applications. The formation of natural weapons, as used by the Chinese shows the versatility with which body parts can function effectively in combat along with diverse methods of execution. Instruction is offered on the ranges within which an exponent could utilize such weapons with minimum force to maximum effect. In conclusion Mr. Parker included various tests, formalities, rituals, and ancient Chinese customs of related interest.
