When Mara finally left her family's home, she vowed she would never allow superstition or false religion into her life again. Mara and Neil purchase Blackwood House, a derelict property outside of town. They're warned about strange occurrences in the crumbling building. Doors open by themselves, voices whisper in the night, bloody handprints appear on the walls, and cold spots linger in the basement, where the house's original owner was murdered. From the author of Contagion: A Novel of The Living Dead comes a new novel of dark horror. Fleeing a troubled past, Sarah Faust has found the perfect place to start a new life. Neglected but with potential, the three-hundred year old townhouse in the port city of Charleston offers a refuge and a place to start over. But all is not as it seems at 5 Rue Lane and she soon finds that her new house harbors something that has been there for a very long time. Something that refuses to stay buried. Praise for L.I. Albemont's previous work: Wonderful! Really, this is first rate. I enjoyed the zombie story, the excitement, real life drama and the historical "stuff" all intertwined. It is not your typical zombie book in that there was a lot more to all the running, gore and zombie brains. Not that I don't love all that but it really makes it much more interesting with a bit more depth. Wish the book would never have ended. Very very good zombie/end of the world story. Well worth your time. One that I think about after -- a story that sticks with you. Really liked it. Awesome book, love the historical influence! Would really love to see the next book.........I am a Walking Dead fan, and this could be a storyline!

There's something wrong with Ashburn House... The ancient building has been the subject of rumours for close to a century. Its owner, Edith, refused to let guests inside and rarely visited the nearby town. Following Edith's death, her sole surviving relative, Adrienne, inherits the property. Adrienne's only possessions are a suitcase of luggage, twenty dollars, and her pet cat. Ashburn House is a lifeline she can't afford to refuse. Adrienne doesn't believe in ghosts, but it's hard to ignore the unease that grows as she explores her new home. Strange messages have been etched into the wallpaper, an old grave is hidden in the forest behind the house, and eerie portraits in the upstairs hall seem to watch her every movement. As she uncovers more of the house's secrets, Adrienne begins to believe the whispered rumours about Ashburn may hold more truth than she ever suspected. The building has a bleak and grisly past, and as she chases the threads of a decades-old mystery, Adrienne realises she's become the prey to something deeply unnatural and intensely resentful. Only one thing is certain: Ashburn's dead are not at rest.

When Mark Spencer and his family moved into the beautiful old Allen House in Monticello, Arkansas, they were aware of its notorious reputation for being haunted. According to local lore, the troubled spirit of society belle Ladell Allen, who had mysteriously committed suicide in the master bedroom in 1948, still roamed the grand historic mansion. Yet, Mark remained skeptical—until he and his family began encountering faceless phantoms, a doppelganger spirit, and other paranormal phenomena. Ensuing ghost investigations offered convincing evidence that six spirits, including Ladell, inhabited their home. But the most shocking event occurred the day Mark followed a strange urge to explore the attic and found, crammed under a floorboard, secret love letters that touchingly depict Ladell Allen’s forbidden, heart-searing romance—and shed light on her tragic end. This haunting true ghost story includes several photographs of the Allen House.

The year is 2296. We have established nearly six hundred stations across the known system. We believe we're invincible. During our quest to reach across the unending expanse of space, humanity has discovered and catalogued hundreds of alien lifeforms. None have ever shown any sentience beyond rudimentary animalistic behaviour, and we've become complacent in our role as the universe's dominant species. We aren't. Not by a long shot. When a guard discovers an unidentified lifeform near her remote moon station, she disregards protocol to investigate it. The consequences are catastrophic. We have established nearly six hundred stations across the known system. The Cymic Parasite spread through them like wildfire. The creature's disguise is horrifyingly effective. Once it infects its host, it absorbs their insides and wears their skin as a flawless mask. This wolf in sheep's clothing tactic allows it to infiltrate and overrun planets before anyone realises what's happening. It cannot be reasoned with. It's near-impossible to kill. And its sole purpose is to contaminate as many humans as it can reach. We have established nearly six hundred stations across the known system. And we're on the threshold of losing them all.

From the Orange Prize-nominated author of The Observations comes an absorbing, atmospheric exploration of one young woman’s friendship with a volatile artist and her place in the controversy that consumes him. Jane Harris’s Gillespie and I presents a strongly voiced female protagonist evocative of Moll Flanders and Becky Sharp, who offers a keen sensibility, deeply felt observations, and poignant remembrances of the world of a young artist in turn-of-the-century Glasgow in this fantastic work of historical fiction. London’s Sunday Times calls Gillespie and I “a literary novel where the storytelling is as skilful as the writing is fine.” Fans of The Piano Teacher and The Thirteenth Tale will find it irresistible and unforgettable.
