Then Ward James, hotshot investigative reporter for the Miami Times, returns to his rural hometown with a death row femme fatale who promises him the story of the decade. She’s armed with explosive evidence, aiming to free—and meet—her convicted “fiancé.” With Ward’s disillusioned younger brother Jack as their driver, they barrel down Florida’s back roads and seamy places in search of The Story, racing flat out into a shocking head-on collision between character and fate as truth takes a back seat to headline news. “Dexter is a writer who cuts to the bone. This volume contains the proceedings of the Sixth Workshop on Hybrid Systems: Computation and Control (HSCC 2003), which was held in Prague, during April 3–5, 2003. The Hybrid Systems workshops attract researchers interested in the modeling, analysis, control, and implementation of systems which involve the interaction of both discrete and continuous state dynamics. The newest results and latest developments in hybrid system models, formal methods for analysis and control, computational tools, as well as new applications and examples are presented at these annual meetings. The Sixth Workshop continued the series of workshops held in Grenoble, France (HART’97), Berkeley, California, USA (HSCC’98), Nijmegen, The Neth- lands (HSCC’99), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA (HSCC 2000), Rome, Italy (HSCC 2001), and Stanford, California, USA (HSCC 2002). Proceedings of these workshops have been published by Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes in C- puter Science (LNCS) series. This year we assembled a technical program committee with a broad expertise in formal methods in computer science, control theory, applied mathematics, and arti?cial intelligence. We received a set of 75 high-quality submitted papers. Hefting a newspaper bag, the paperboy trimmed playtime with his daily routine. But routines rupture. Undeterred by dangers and disasters, rascals guide the reader along paper routes sharing their adventures and misadventures. Their evocative stories arc from hilarious to horrific, and poignant to repugnant, as the children spun between drudgery and exciting rewards. This American icon learned lifetime lessons in just a few years, which impacted his character. These responsible messengers impacted the American character. At the core of the twentieth century, 500,000 youth ran routes in the heart of neighborhoods. The million dollar newspaper business was entrusted to the hands of little merchants. Not overprotected nor pampered, not perfect nor polished, rambunctious children with remarkable fortitude hustled, to spend dimes on snacks and save dollars for that first car. They soared forward with self confidence acquired from mistakes committed on sidewalks. With the image of a friendly Norman Rockwell figure, these youngsters left an imprint of their footsteps to the porch.
