**FLASH SALE** **$.99 FOR THREE DAYS ONLY** **TOP 5 AMAZON BESTSELLING THRILLER** **OVER 250,000 BOOKS SOLD** From a reader: All of us with kindles watch for the bargains - admit it. I got this book because it was a bargain and had good reviews. It was simply put, terrific. The mystery was excellent from the get-go and the main character, Thomas Prescott, is very funny: "I'm not into politics. The last time I voted was for Carrie Underwood." In the opening scene, Prescott is in Maine suffering from depression on Thanksgiving. He hops a plane to his home town of Seattle and almost immediately finds a dead body adrift on the shore outside his boyhood home. Even though he is an ex-cop and retired consultant to the FBI, he can't keep his hands out of the investigation. The investigation leads him to different suspects, investigators, supporting cast members and locales. The book has the very good mystery, the excellent main character, very good supporting characters (no matter how minor, none are cutouts) and there is the added element of a bit of science thrown into the mix. To divulge it would be a small spoiler, so I won't, but I always like to learn a bit of something while being thoroughly entertained. Halfway through the book I ordered Mr. Pirog's other two books. I then thought: "Uh oh, what if the ending isn't any good?" After the ending, I was even happier I will have two more of Mr. Pirog's books to look forward to reading. --Richard A. Mitchell Book Description: MEET THOMAS. THOMAS IS HAVING A ROUGH GO. HIS GIRL LEFT HIM. HE'S ALONE ON THANKSGIVING. HE'S OUT OF WAFFLES. AND NOW SOMEONE IS TRYING TO KILL HIM. His love life in shambles, Thomas Prescott returns to Seattle, the very place he fled from after his parents' deaths nearly a decade earlier. Just as Thomas is getting settled in, he sees a body floating in the private cove behind his boyhood home. It is a woman. But not just any woman. The governor of Washington. As the suspense ratchets, and the twists unfold, Thomas is thrown into the middle of the biggest murder investigation in Washington state history. Prescott is forced to confront the demons from his past and unearths a new enemy, one that couldn't possibly be human, one that has haunted man since the dawn of time... More reviews: Pirog engages readers with a tight plot, well-developed characters, historical context, and just enough pop culture to keep you begging for more. Thomas Prescott is witty, arrogant -yet generous, and operates on just enough id to make him adorable. He is my favorite naughty character by far! Every page begs to be turned, every chapter begs to be completed, and the end leaves you begging for the next book! --Tami I read approximately 8-10 books a month and have for years so that should give an idea of how impressed I am with his author. I am writing this review because this author DESERVES to be read. Refreshingly funny, quirky and still produces a many layered well thought out mystery thriller. "Gray Matter" adds even more than just chuckles and a thought provoking who done it, this story even went as far as to throw in tears. I was mesmerized from the first page by not only the main plot but by the sub plot as well, the ending left me surprised and with tears in my eyes. WOW! --Tif Saucer

As he slowly acclimates to small town living, he hears rumblings about a horrific crime in the town's past. The crime appears to have been solved, but Prescott has his doubts. Balancing farm life and a budding romance with the town veterinarian, Prescott begins reinvestigating the crime. On the surface, the case is cut and dry--a revenge killing gone bad. But what if revenge wasn't the motive? What if the store owner wasn't the target? One by one, Prescott delves into the victims' pasts. As Prescott digs deeper, he discovers the murders were twenty years in the making and soon finds himself in the unfamiliar waters of Big Biotech, GMOs, political payoffs, hired mercenaries, and the shadowy past of one of the most hated companies in the world. As the web of lies grow, Prescott must prove the cover-up before he becomes it's next victim...

COURAGE > COWARDS As we approach the most important presidential election in America’s history, something has been lost among all of the debates, attack ads, and super- PACs—something that Americans used to hold in very high regard: THE TRUTH. Glenn Beck likes to say that “the truth has no agenda”—but there’s another side to that: people who have agendas rarely care about the truth. And, these days, it seems like everyone has an agenda. The media leads with stories that rate over those that matter. Politicians put lobbyists and electability over honesty. Radicals alter history in order to change the future. In Cowards, Glenn Beck exposes the truth about thirteen important issues that have been hijacked by deceit. Whether out of spite, greed, or fear, these are the things that no one seems to be willing to have an honest conversation about. For example: * How our two-party POLITICAL SYSTEM often leaves voters with NO GOOD OPTIONS. * How extremists are slowly integrating ISLAMIC LAW into our SOCIETY. * How PROGRESSIVE “religious” leaders like JIM WALLIS are politicizing the Bible. * How the CARTEL VIOLENCE on our border is FAR WORSE than people realize. * How “LIBERTARIAN” has been INTENTIONALLY turned into a DIRTY WORD. * How GEORGE SOROS has amassed enough MONEY and POWER to INFLUENCE entire ECONOMIES. In some cases, the truth is out there, but people simply don’t want to hear it. It’s much easier, and certainly a lot more convenient, to keep our blinders on. After all, as a quote attributed to President James Garfield made clear, “The truth will set you free, but first it will make you miserable.” Miserable or not, the truth can no longer be something we hope for; it must be something we live. When courage prevails, cowards do not—and this book was written to ensure that’s exactly what happens.

An American icon and hero faces a nation--and a world--in transition A bona-fide American hero at the close of World War II, General Dwight D. Eisenhower rode an enormous wave of popularity into the Oval Office seven years later. Though we may view the Eisenhower years through a hazy lens of 1950s nostalgia, historians consider his presidency one of the least successful. At home there was civil rights unrest, McCarthyism, and a deteriorating economy; internationally, the Cold War was deepening. But despite his tendency toward "brinksmanship," Ike would later be revered for "keeping the peace." Still, his actions and policies at the onset of his career, covered by Tom Wicker, would haunt Americans of future generations.

In recent years, typhoons have struck the Philippines and Vanuatu; earthquakes have rocked Haiti, Pakistan, and Nepal; floods have swept through Pakistan and Mozambique; droughts have hit Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia; and more. All led to loss of life and loss of livelihoods, and recovery will take years. One of the likely effects of climate change is to increase the likelihood of the type of extreme weather events that seems to cause these disasters. But do extreme events have to turn into disasters with huge loss of life and suffering? Dull Disasters? harnesses lessons from finance, political science, economics, psychology, and the natural sciences to show how countries and their partners can be far better prepared to deal with disasters. The insights can lead to practical ways in which governments, civil society, private firms, and international organizations can work together to reduce the risks to people and economies when a disaster looms. Responses to disasters then become less emotional, less political, less headline-grabbing, and more business as usual and effective. The book takes the reader through a range of solutions that have been implemented around the world to respond to disasters. It gives an overview of the evidence on what works and what doesn't and it examines the crucial issue of disaster risk financing. Building on the latest evidence, it presents a set of lessons and principles to guide future thinking, research, and practice in this area.
